Celebrate the Rebirth of the Servant Leadership School with John Dear!

We are deeply excited for the rebirth of the Servant Leadership School this spring. In celebration of our new beginning we will be hosting an evening with author, peace activist, and Jesuit priest John Dear on Thursday, March 8.  John will share from his new book Lazarus Come Forth! How Jesus Confronts the Culture of Death and Invites Us into the New Life of Peace and challenge us all to walk in the radical, disarming way of Jesus.

lazarus-largeJoining him will be special guest musician Blair Pettyjohn.  Blair brings an exciting mix of folk and blues sounds together in service to Christian nonviolence and unconditional love. He will share songs from his recently released album Conscientious Objector.

Following John’s talk there will be an author Q+A and book signing, with copies of Lazarus Come Forth! and other titles available for purchase from The Potter’s House.

There is no charge to attend, but we do ask that people give as they are able and inspired to support the renewal of the Servant Leadership School.  We are grateful for all your support during this spring fundraising event.

The program will begin at 7pm. Light refreshments will be served.

REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED, AS WE HAVE REACHED OUR MAXIMUM SEATING CAPACITY.

About the book: The raising of Lazarus in John’s Gospel is one of the most dramatic and poignant episodes in scripture. While traditionally read as a story about friendship and faith, Dear shows through his extended meditations how it also summarizes the persistent theme of the Gospel. If Lazarus represents humanity, the story of his raising is about the God of Life confronting the power of death itself, calling humanity to walk out of its tomb—the culture of violence and war—and into “the new life of resurrection peace.”  According to Dear, the Gospel urges us to carry on this liberating work of Jesus today: to remove the stone that traps us in violence, to call each other out of our tombs, to unbind one another and set each other free to live in peace. In doing so, we will fulfill our vocations as disciples of Jesus and enter the fullness of life today.
